Chris White took home the hardware at the 2009 OPA Men's Bodybuilding Championships by winning the Heavyweight Masters, Heavyweight Open and Overall titles.

Juniors

The 2009 Junior class brought 2 warriors to battle. First place winner Anthony Joosee presented symmetrical abs and good separation. Anthony will have to tighten his physique if he wishes to do damage on the National stage. Rounding out the class was Reza Pourselah. Pourselah displayed good balance, a pleasing side chest shot and top quality leg sweep but just needed to diet more.

Masters Lightweight

The 40+ competitors came to represent this evening. The 3 mature classes (Lightweight Masters, Heavyweight Masters and Grandmasters) were the deepest in the competition yet again proving that age is just a number. The Masters Lightweight class was dominated by a evenly proportioned Bernie Mockler. Mockler stole the class by bringing the most complete package to the stage. Second place was awarded to John Almasi. Almasi sported solid conditioning while free posing to television's A-Team theme song. Almasi needs to improve dramatically on his v-taper as he lacked any real shoulder width/v-taper. The third place trophy went to John Mutton. Mutton displayed peaked biceps but will have to improve on his lower body conditioning if he wishes to advance his future placings.

Masters Heavyweight

The Masters Heavyweight had plenty of beef to spare! Chris White dominated the class with flawless shape and dense musculature. White's confident smile said it all - he was the man to beat. White needs to sharpen his leg conditioning but what he brought to the stage was more than enough to win. Second place trophy was presented to London native Paul Lenfeld. Lenfeld possessed the hardest upper body on the stage. Lenfeld needs to bring up his legs and biceps but displayed a graininess that is seldom seem on a Pro stage. Finishing third was Adam Headland. Headland showcased a well-balanced physique but was simply out-muscled by White and out-conditioned by Lenfeld. All 3 men should represent Ontario well at the Canadian Nationals.

Grandmasters

Brian Steiss had to hold back his tears as he was awarded the first place trophy. Years of hard work and experience were revealed in Steiss' freaky most muscular. The crowd awarded Steiss' steadfast dedication with thunderous applause. Second place went to a shredded Colin Stass. Stass wowed the crowd with his razor sharp conditioning. His sharp abs complemented his impressive front lat spread. Finishing the top 3 was Randy Rogers. Rogers transitioned smoothing during his posing routine and displayed full round biceps. Once Rogers improves his conditioning he will improve his ranking.

Bantamweight

The sole bantamweight competitor was fourth place Masters lightweight athlete Paul Brooker. Brooker exhibited a ripped physique but needs to pack on more mass onto his tiny frame. With more size Brooker will excel in both the Masters and Open divisions.

Lightweight

Colin Stass, the second place Grandmaster, was the solitary competitor in this class. Congratulations on qualifying for the Canadian Nationals!

Welterweight

The Welterweight class was another division that lacked competitors. Brian Barraquis stood alone and took home the gold for his efforts. Barraquis came prepared with a deep set of symmetrical abs. What Barraquis lacked in conditioning he more than made up for with his stunning biceps.

Light-Middleweight

Jerry Poirier lead the Light Middleweight class with barn-door wide delts and a tiny waist that even a figure competitor would be envious of. Poirier's great v-taper could not be matched but he will need to sleep under a squat rack to even out his physique. Second place was awarded to Mark Anthony Wingson. Wingson played to the crowd by rolling his stomach and also presented a finely tuned side chest pose. Wingson needs to diet a bit more to crack the top spot. Rounding out the top three was evenly proportioned Sean Stephenson. Stephenson has all the parts to take home a class win except he doesn't have the conditioning required at this level. He will certainly need to step up his game before hitting the National stage.

Middleweight

Overall South Central champion Shannon Anstey continued his winning streak by taking home the gold in the Middleweight class. Ansley's crisp conditioning, clean lines and thick musculature proved too much for the other competitors in his class. In this class it was Ansley and then the rest. The winner of the Masters Lightweight class, Bernie Mockler, managed to secure second place. The third place trophy was awarded to the 2008 Eastern Ontario Overall Champion Leonard Trani, Trani displayed the best guns in this class but was simply outmuscled. Trani needs to pack on at least another ten pounds to be competitive at this level.

Light-Heavyweight

In a very tight class Marko Zaborac flexed out a victory. Zaborac featured densely packed muscle on a ripped frame. His body would have been accented more if he would have applied posing oil during the evening event. Harris Jordanou wrestled his way into the second place spot. Jordanou displayed a lean physique but needs to dry out a bit more and add more muscle to his frame. Third place when to an ultra-ripped Victor Iacobelli. Iacobelli impressed the judges with a cobra-esque front lat spread but all his hard work was overshadowed by a poor tanning job.

Heavyweight

Masters Heavyweight winner Chris White continued to rule by securing victory in the Heavyweight class. The silver trophy went to Renaldo Gairy. Gairy's perfect lines echo his potential in the iron game. When Gairy drys out a tad more he will dominate at the Nationals. Placing third in this class was Fouad Abiad's young protégé Hassan Jama. Jama was in good company when compared to the genetically elite White and Gairy. Full round muscle bellies that exploded when Jama posed had the crowd cheering for more. All three heavyweights will be a serious threat on the National stage.

Super-Heavyweight

Jerome Bravo was the top dog of the mass monsters this evening. Bravo displayed densely packed muscles which were highlighted by a massive pair of arms. Bravo's will have to time his peak sooner as he did appear tighter at the evening show. Second place went to Marlon John. Weighing in at a colossal 262 lbs John redefined the word "freak". John's downfall is his lack of conditioning. Once he buckles down and dials it in John will rule the Super-Heavyweight division. The third place trophy was presented to Maher Alasfar. Alasfar was lean and dry but needs to pay attention to the fine details of competition. When a class is very tight the judges will nitpick. In the case of Alasfar he needed more oil and a more even tan.

Overall

Only 1 point separated Middleweight winner Shannon Ansley and Heavyweight winner Chris White. This evening White's size could not be denied and he was awarded the Overall trophy. Both men will represent Ontario well at the Nationals. It would be wise to bet on White winning a Pro Card at the Masters Nationals this year.
